History of Equilibrium
Since its beginnings in 1984, Equilibrium has played a defining role in supporting and shaping the field of kinesiology in Australia and beyond. From humble roots as a small Melbourne distributor to becoming a world-recognised supplier and publisher of kinesiology materials, our story reflects the growth and evolution of an entire profession — one built on innovation, collaboration, and community.
- 1984
Equilibrium is registered by Philip Rafferty — an early pioneer of kinesiology in Australia — and established in Melbourne as a distributor of kinesiology materials, with a mission to promote kinesiology across the country. Michael Wild soon comes on board. The business begins by importing and publishing Touch For Health (TFH) materials.
- 1985
Philip leaves Equilibrium to embark on a lifetime of promoting kinesiology in Australia and worldwide. Michael takes on the entire project and expands into supplies from other newly developing kinesiology modalities alongside the established TFH range.
- 1985 onwards
Equilibrium begins attending annual kinesiology conferences across the country, a tradition that continues to this day.
- 1986 onwards
Michael and Equilibrium become a focal point for organising international kinesiology founders and authors to visit Australia and run workshops, while also helping to orchestrate national kinesiology conferences.
- 1989
Equilibrium publishes the world's first Kinesiology Directory of practitioners and instructors, printing thousands of copies each year. UK and Canadian equivalents are later modelled on this pioneering effort. In the 2000s the directory moves online and remains available today.
- 1990s
As kinesiology grows as a profession, Equilibrium grows with it, becoming a full-time business supplying hundreds of kinesiology books, charts, and materials around the world. Distributors are established in the UK, South Africa, Asia, and New Zealand. The catalogue expands to include Touch For Health, Three In One Concepts, Edu-K, Hyperton-X, Biokinesiology, PKP International, Kinergetics, Rhythmic Movement Training, and more.
- 1993
After nine years in Melbourne's eastern suburbs, Equilibrium moves to Ormond and opens a shop to the public, expanding its range to include natural health books, crystals, giftware, oils, and incense. Equilibrium becomes a destination for practitioners and students alike.

Equilibrium goes online, extending its reach to practitioners and students across the globe.

2025 — A New Chapter, the Same Heart
After 41 years of service to the kinesiology community, Equilibrium entered a new era. In 2025, the business was proudly passed on by Michael and Franca to Damian and Stephanie — a husband-and-wife team based on the Mornington Peninsula, bringing together decades of experience in natural health and education.
A long-standing kinesiology practitioner and educator, Damian brings deep clinical insight into the needs of students and practitioners, ensuring that every product and resource within Equilibrium is carefully selected with purpose, relevance, and integrity.
With a background in early childhood development and extensive experience managing a natural medicine clinic, Stephanie brings a strong focus on care, organisation, and the customer experience. She ensures every interaction reflects the warmth and support Equilibrium has always been known for.
